ViCBiostat undertakes research in public health and clinical epidemiology marrying statistical methodology with real-world health-related decision making. Within a wide ranging program of research on statistical methodology applied to health and medical research at ViCBiostat, we have various topics that would be suitable for PhD study. Multiple Imputation for Handling Missing Data

The proposed PhD project will investigate issues regarding the use of multiple imputation to handle missing data. In particular, this will involve evaluation and expansion of methods for conducting sensitivity analyses regarding the mechanism behind the missing data, to allow for the possibility that missingness may depend on unobserved data. This is a very topical area of research. The research will engage directly with actual analyses from the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children, a nationally representative longitudinal study of 10,000 children managed by the Department of Social Services on behalf of the Australian Government. The PhD will be conducted through the University of Melbourne and the successful candidate will be based at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute. The candidate will be supported by the broad research group of the Victorian Centre for Biostatistics (ViCBiostat). Methods for handling missing data in complex longitudinal studies

We seek expressions of interest from prospective students to undertake a PhD in biostatistical methods. The proposed research will investigate methods to handle missing data in complex longitudinal cohort studies, particularly in the context of modern analytic methods (e.g. causal inference approaches). This will involve evaluation and extension of methods for handling missing data, particularly multiple imputation. This is a very topical area of research. The research will be motivated by case studies from major Australian multi-wave cohort studies such as the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children and a number of other such studies based at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, e.g. the Victorian Adolescent Health Cohort Study. The PhD will be conducted through the University of Melbourne and the successful candidate will be based at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. The candidate will be supported within the broad research environment of the Victorian Centre for Biostatistics (ViCBiostat).
